The Flume: NH Teen Reader's Choice Award was created in 2005 in response to a New Hampshire teens' request to have a book award geared toward high school students. Teens in grades 9-12 nominate titles that were published within the last two years. Librarians then narrow the group of titles to a list of 10. Teens vote for the winning title from that list.

The Isinglass Teen Read Award was started in 2001 by the Barrington Public Library and Barrington Middle School in order to promote teen reading, the participation of teens in the creation of their own reading list, and to honor those authors whose works speak to youth. New Hampshire 7th and 8th graders nominate titles and vote for the winners.
